The Torrens system of registering titles in South Carolina, operative July 1, is praised as a boon to land owners and borrowers. Advocated by the Farmers' Union and Governor Manning, it guarantees title after proper registration and reduces mortgage documentation costs, though adoption remains optional and uncertain.
Edgefield Rifles will be reorganized and volunteer for service after a mass meeting. About 200 people gathered at the courthouse to endorse immediate reorganization. Capt. W A Collett was named chair of the enrollment committee, with others to be chosen by him.

The State's case against El lis Gilbert Susanna Gilbert Law ton Gilbert Roton Gilbert Estelle Gilbert Ruby Gilbert and Albert Shirley for assault on Miss Emily Broadway a Paxville teacher at Liberty Hill Lee county was heard in Bishopville circuit court. All defendants were found guilty except Albert Shirley who was acquitted. A new trial motion was filed and sentence deferred.
Yale professor Irving Fisher offers eating rules focusing on dental hygiene and mindful chewing. He urges thorough mastication, savoring flavors, avoiding hurry, and letting instinct guide when satisfied. He advises sipping liquids with meals, avoiding exclusive diets, and including raw foods at each meal for balance.
The University of South Carolina announces a Teacher's Scholarship for one male student from each county. It provides $100 cash and fee exemption totaling $158. An examination will be held at the county seat on Friday July 14 1916 with general entrance exams for all students.
Programme for Edgefield Baptist Sunday School Convention at Parksville Baptist Church on July 19–20, 1916. Sessions include devotional exercises, reports, graded Sunday school, benevolence, citizenship relation, and Baptist literature. Speakers include J D Hughey J C Morgan W J Gaines KE P Jones J T Littlejohn and others. Open parliament and new business conclude on July 3 1916.
A historical payment chart shows National Guardsmen salaries by rank and specialty. Brigadier general to privates receive daily rates, with engineers, signal, and hospital corps personnel earning higher amounts. Includes master electricians and quartermasters with rates up to 2.50 dollars per day.
County chairman B E Nicholson releases a fixed schedule of campaign meetings for congressional candidates across the district. Meetings are set for Beaufort on August 1 Jasper on August 2 Hampton on August 3 Bamberg and Barnwell on August 4 Saluda on August 7 Edgefield on August 8 and Aiken on August 9.
Arthur Hunter of New York Life Insurance Company argues life insurance statistics are unbiased. Data from seven American and one Canadian company show abstainers have 10 to 30 percent lower mortality than non abstainers, with total abstainers faring best. Moderate drinkers have higher mortality than temperate drinkers, and those who drank heavily at application have markedly higher excess mortality.
