Address on justice reform in South Carolina by John Sheppard

The South Carolina Bar Association heard Hon. John Sheppard in Columbia deliver a landmark address on justice and reform. Daughters of the Confederacy visit County Home

Daughters of the Confederacy and friends brought a bountiful holiday dinner to County Home inmates, sharing turkey ham and fruit and leaving supplies in each room. The group joined in a Robt. E. Lee memorial program at the opera house with essays by Marion Wright Aminee Cartlidge and Willie Adams, praised for delivery. later, John T. Ba presented a gold medal.

White Town Farmers Plan Soil Tests Before Fertilizer Purchases

Mr J D White of the White Town farmers union told The Advertiser that members will have their soil analyzed prior to buying commercial fertilizers this year. The group uses about seventy two tons of guano annually and aims to apply only necessary plant nutrients to secure better yields. He noted increased grain sowing in the area over the past decade and favorable prospects.

Knights of Pythias Banquet Highlights Johnston Social

In Johnston a Knights of Pythias banquet at Lewis Hall entertained about 225 guests with a formal dining social, rose and fern decorations, and fruit pyramids. Mrs. C. F. Pechman hosted a W C T U gathering with piano solos and a salad course. The community mourns the death of Mrs. J. C. Lewis, a longtime Baptist and mission ally, with funeral services held. Miss Moriat Gary returns from South Carolina to Florida, and Miss Lillie LaGrone visits friends in Darlington. The Datts store project progresses, and Gen J E Lee is honored with a life size portrait at Johnston High School by the D of C Mary Ann Buie chapter.
