Death of Mrs Henry Medlock in Edgefield

Mrs Mattie Carmichael Medlock died Sunday at six in the morning after a brief marriage to Mr Henry Medlock. She was the daughter of Dr J H Carmichael and a devoted Methodist, survived by her husband, an infant son, her mother Mrs Bessie Carmichael, and brother Hammond Carmichael. Funeral Monday at 11 at the Methodist church, interment in the village cemetery.

A Saloonless Nation in 1920 Cantata to Be Staged

The Edgefield opera house hosts Relvcal’s Wisconsin’s Prohibition Union cantata titled A Saloonless Nation in 1920. About 100 young people and children represent American nationalities and interests in song. The production promises to be highly entertaining and original.

The Woman's Mission Society starts its annual home missions prayer week on Sunday afternoon at the Baptist church continuing through Friday afternoon except Tuesday when the W C T U meeting at Trenton is on offer. Each afternoon service is led by a different society member and all women of the church and others are invited.

Cotton Uniforms Roll Out Across Georgia Cities

The Augusta civil service commission orders 175 cotton spring and summer uniforms for firemen and policemen. Savannah plans a larger order, Augusta and Savannah lead in cotton use with Atlanta to follow. Purchasing Power of Farm Crops Dwindling

Washington Feb 22 The Department of Agriculture reports the purchasing power of an acre of farm crops declined from 1909 to 1913 and 1918. Wheat bought 98 pounds of lard in 1909, 81 in 1913. calico fell from 243 to 178 yards. cotton bought 49 hoes in 1909, three fewer in 1918. An acre of corn bought 79 pounds of coffee in 1909, 59 in 1913. Overalls from one acre of cotton dropped from 27 pairs in 1909 to 24 fewer in 1918.

Clemson Revenue Falls After State Tax Cut

Clemson college faces a sharp drop in income as state fertilizer tax receipts decline by about 70 percent. The totals reach 30,310 so far this year versus 117,922 last year, with cotton seed meal taxes driving most of the receipts. A 90,000 state loan was approved by the legislature to cover potential shortfalls.

Death of an Aged and Honored Citizen of McKendree

The community mourns S W McDowell born 1848 who died February 16 at his home near the first McKendree church after years of asthma rheumatism and heart ailment. Survived by wife Mahala Parkman and three children Ramos Tolbert J and Fannie Pardue with families. Funeral conducted by J M Shaffer as pastor was absent. Rev Brabham. Burial marked by hyacinth and violet cross on the mound.
