Mr. J. W. Hudson says his fine mare, trained by expert Michgan trainer R L Williams, is racing on the track of Mr. J. L. Dodge in Grovetown and making a good record. Hudson traveled from Grovetown with news of the horse’s progress and fine handling.

Sunday School Specialists at Methodist Church

Mr. Webb general secretary of the state Inter-Denominational Sunday School convention speaks Friday at 3 30 afternoon service at the Methodist church. A second meeting in the evening features Miss Agnes Ravenel on elementary improvements. The public is invited to both sessions.

Union Meeting at Edgefield Ends Profitable Session

The first division union met Saturday at Edgefield for a pleasant and profitable session. Sunday morning delegates heard an inspiring sermon by Dr. Jones. Mr. M. B. Hamilton was elected moderator and Mr. Lemuel Harling secretary. A delightful dinner was served. The next meeting will be at Stevens Creek church.

The Woman's Christian Temperance Union hosts its monthly gathering and Frances Willard heavenly birthday observance on Monday the 7th at Mrs. Lovick Smith’s home. Members bring contributions to the Frances Willard Memorial Fund. Program includes devotions, a prison reform paper, reminiscences, a duett, and life stories of Willard.

Another Candidate For Supervisor

The Advertiser notes a second candidate, Mr J W Hudson, raised in the county’s lower section. He has road building experience, managed the ferry near his home for years, and aided in quelling the Hamburg riot as a boy in 1876. If elected he would move to Edgefield to serve centrally.

Saluda Grants 20 Year Electric Franchise to F A Hugh

Saluda council grants a twenty year franchise to F A Hugh of Atlanta for an electric light and power plant. Work must start within 90 days and finish within six months. The business district gets 24 hour service and homes all night service at 1.24 cents per kilowatt with a minimum plant cost of 6 000.

Death of Miss Mamie E Lake at age of unknown

Miss Mamie E Lake died suddenly Tuesday afternoon from heart failure. A daughter of Dr John Lake she was active in the Baptist church and the Edgefield chapter of U D C serving as historian last year. Her funeral is at the Baptist church this afternoon with interment in the village cemetery, survived by a sister Mrs R H Mims.

Charlotte Observer Offers Bargain Subscriptions

The Charlotte Observer announces a thirty day bargain for new and regular subscribers. Daily and Sunday Observer at six dollars per year or Daily only at five dollars, versus a regular price of eight dollars. Death of Miss Ela Scurry in Saluda County

Early this morning the community learned of the death of Miss Ella Scurry at her home after a year of declining health. She was born in Saluda County and belonged to Good Hope church. The funeral will be at the Baptist church this afternoon with interment beside her brother Ralph Scurry, who died eight years ago. she leaves two brothers P. B. Scurry and J. R. Scurry.
