Local notes from Edgefield include visits by Ex-Gov J C Sheppard and Mrs S E Matthews in town, DA J Wm Thurmond attending court in Greenwood, and social calls by Mrs Carrie Cave and Mrs W B Johnson. Upcoming events include a U D C meeting, a Presbyterian church service, and tax deadline reminders along with market observations on agriculture and stock.
The Advertiser reports a church business meeting of Horns Creek Church to be held at the church next Sunday afternoon at three o clock. All members are urged to attend.
The Valentine party organized by the ladies of the Methodist church will be held Thursday night February 10 in the opera house. A fuller announcement will appear next week.
Mr. J. W. Hudson says his fine mare, trained by expert Michgan trainer R L Williams, is racing on the track of Mr. J. L. Dodge in Grovetown and making a good record. Hudson traveled from Grovetown with news of the horse’s progress and fine handling.
Mr. Webb general secretary of the state Inter-Denominational Sunday School convention speaks Friday at 3 30 afternoon service at the Methodist church. A second meeting in the evening features Miss Agnes Ravenel on elementary improvements. The public is invited to both sessions.
The first division union met Saturday at Edgefield for a pleasant and profitable session. Sunday morning delegates heard an inspiring sermon by Dr. Jones. Mr. M. B. Hamilton was elected moderator and Mr. Lemuel Harling secretary. A delightful dinner was served. The next meeting will be at Stevens Creek church.
The Advertisers 1916 candidates column begins with W G Wells named as a candidate for county supervisor. Wells is a Colliers area leader, widely known across the county, with prior service and a record of conservative businesslike administration. His platform appears in full in this issue.
The Woman's Christian Temperance Union hosts its monthly gathering and Frances Willard heavenly birthday observance on Monday the 7th at Mrs. Lovick Smith’s home. Members bring contributions to the Frances Willard Memorial Fund. Program includes devotions, a prison reform paper, reminiscences, a duett, and life stories of Willard.
The Advertiser notes a second candidate, Mr J W Hudson, raised in the county’s lower section. He has road building experience, managed the ferry near his home for years, and aided in quelling the Hamburg riot as a boy in 1876. If elected he would move to Edgefield to serve centrally.
Saluda council grants a twenty year franchise to F A Hugh of Atlanta for an electric light and power plant. Work must start within 90 days and finish within six months. The business district gets 24 hour service and homes all night service at 1.24 cents per kilowatt with a minimum plant cost of 6 000.
Miss Mamie E Lake died suddenly Tuesday afternoon from heart failure. A daughter of Dr John Lake she was active in the Baptist church and the Edgefield chapter of U D C serving as historian last year. Her funeral is at the Baptist church this afternoon with interment in the village cemetery, survived by a sister Mrs R H Mims.
The Charlotte Observer announces a thirty day bargain for new and regular subscribers. Daily and Sunday Observer at six dollars per year or Daily only at five dollars, versus a regular price of eight dollars. The paper promises new features including a leased wire to Washington, a wealthy page by Herbert Kaufman, and a full page by Frederick Palmer on Europe’s Battlefront Lessons for America.
Early this morning the community learned of the death of Miss Ella Scurry at her home after a year of declining health. She was born in Saluda County and belonged to Good Hope church. The funeral will be at the Baptist church this afternoon with interment beside her brother Ralph Scurry, who died eight years ago. she leaves two brothers P. B. Scurry and J. R. Scurry.
J W Hudson and W G Wells pledge to support election outcomes and seek Democratic primary support in Edgefield County. Hudson announces candidacy for Supervisor of Edgefield County from Morgana South Carolina and commits to serve the people to the best of his ability. Wells also endorses democratic primary outcomes.

A Complete Electric Plant occupies little space and needs no electrical experience to operate. It can be started by a child to provide lights. The speaker offers to discuss electric lights and waterworks for home use and invites cooperation.
The County Treasurer will receive taxes from October 5, 1915 to March 15, 1916. Taxes are due October 15 to December 31, 1915. Penalties of 1 percent apply in January, 2 percent by February 1, 1916, and 5 percent from March 1 to March 15. After March 15, all taxes will be collected by the county auditor.

Farm one spans 500 acres with a seven room house five tenant houses and open land for eight to ten plows.
