A late 19th century obituary tribute honors Hugh Henderson Scott who died December 7. The edgefield community recalls his Confederate service from January 1861, serving in Gregg's First Regiment and later as a scout in Hogan's Squad under Wade Hampton.
Mrs Leslie Kernaghan to entertain the January Wo man’s Christian Temperance Union gathering on Monday at 3 30 PM. The note recalls 1620 Pilgrim Fathers landing at Plymouth and Indians introducing Indian corn, framing a shift from blessing to curse in the colonial era.
The document proclaims the 300th anniversary of Pilgrim landing and declares January 17 a ban on making or selling alcoholic drinks from corn or any fermentable product. It labels violators as law breakers and outlines a W C T U program with devotions talks, reports, and committees for a prohibition public meeting.
Miss Ella Belle Scurry and Roy Smith wed at the new Baptist parsonage on Thursday at noon. The ceremony was by Dr. R. G. Lee with a satin ribbon aisle and roses, followed by a salad course, and the couple departed for their wedding journey by northbound train.
Mrs. Mayson wife of P. J. B. Mayson died December 18 after a year of illness. Formerly Miss Tunie Tillman she was active in church and social life. Funeral held Thursday at the Episcopal church with Rev. Peatross officiating. She leaves a grieving husband and no children.
A special examination will be held January 10. Teachers with re certificates will appear before the County Board on that date. White applicants report at Court House and colored applicants at Macedonia. W. Fuller, County Superintendent of Education.

One of the season’s grand functions featured a six o’clock dinner hosted Monday by Miss Ruth Tompkins for twenty four Edgefield friends. The eight course Waldorf style menu impressed guests and the pleasant social that followed created lasting memories.
Tuesday afternoon Miss Justine Cantelou hosted five tables of bridge for Mrs. Henry J. Munnerlyn of Bennettsville and Miss Rebecca Harker of Sumter. Top score wins went to Miss Lulie Adams with pink and green mints on the table. Edgefield sends affectionate greetings to Mr. James E. Hart Jr. and his bride Miss Rose Jeffries who wed in Memphis and stationed in Edgefield now.
Mr. and Mrs. E. S. Johnson entertained for their nephew Ed Johnson and his bride Miss Ethelyn Holston who were married in Augusta on Tuesday. The bride, daughter of Walter E. Holston, is a Tubman High School graduate from Augusta and the groom, son of W. P. Johnson of Johnston, is a young farmer.
A correspondent notes he was appointed to raise funds for the Palmetto Sanitarium in Columbia S C for colored tuberculosis patients and thanks donors. Total contributions collected through him amount to two hundred thirteen colors and thirty one cents.
