Mrs. Lucy Dugas arrived in Edgefield for a visit. Capt. George Norris of Columbia called on Edgefield residents this week. B. M. Lee and his young daughter spent the weekend with Dr. R. G. Lee. Mrs. Osmond Williams visits her mother in Columbia after hospital time. Red Cross Seals urged to stamp out consumption. Mayors and clergymen noted with a welcome service arranged by Dr. R. G. Lee. Mrs. Mamie N. Tillman visited by Mary Poppenheim of Charleston. Orlando Sheppard and J. L. Mims attend Citadel board meeting in Charleston. J. G. Holland unable to attend Concordia Lodge duties. Masons and Red Hill lodges represented. A. A. Edmunds opens boardinghouse to house seven boarders and plans expansion. Edgefield residents urged to buy Red Cross Christmas Seals.

Surprise Edgefield Marriage Foreshadowed by Few Friends

In Edgefield on Friday at 3 pm a surprise marriage united Miss Eloise Hart and J S Scurry with Dr R G Lee performing the ceremony at the parsonage. The couple then departed by train to Charleston amid congratulations from their many friends.

Death of Mr George West at Cleora

The obituary notes the death of Mr George West on Sunday night November 23 at his son Brooker West’s home near Cleora after months of illness. He is buried at Reho church where he was a member, with Rev J W Kesterson officiating. Survived by sons P B West Gillam K T and a daughter Mrs J B Gilchrist.

D A R Meeting of Old Ninety Six District Chapter

Old Ninety Six District Chapter members meet at Mrs J D Holsteins home Tuesday afternoon December 16 at 3 30. Due to Continental Congress dues must be paid in December to reach Washington on time, pay both national and state dues or mail checks to treasurer Mrs James R Cantelou. Methodist Church Names New Edgefield Pastor G W Taylor

Rev G W Taylor arrives as pastor of Edgefield Methodist Church occupying the Parsonage on Main Street. Transferred from the Virginia Conference he served as chaplain in World War I with the 111th Field Artillery and spent eleven months in France. He will preach at Edgefield Sundays 11 30 a m and 7 15 p m with occasional services at Trenton Church. A large congregation is expected.

Great Lyceum Attraction at Civic League program

The Smith-Spring-Holmes Orchestra Quartet leads a diverse Lyceum program described as a Thanksgiving dinner of music. Mayor townsman A S Tompkins is cited, and patrons are urged to attend Monday December 15 with Civic League promoting cooperation and wholesome entertainment.

Wade Barrington Lott Honored at Americus Church

A bronze tablet 18 by 24 inches was unveiled at First Baptist Church Americus Georgia on November 10 in memory of two young men who died in service Wade Barrington Lott died at Parris Island during active service. Dr Charles W Minor led the services. Wade was the son of Luther Lott and a nephew of Mrs Cogburn of Edgefield.
