Edgefield Advertiser sets new terms by W F Durisoe proprietor. Annual in advance two dollars and fifty cents with other rates and penalties for late payment. Publisher may discontinue only after arrearages. offers gratis paper to five subscribers. ads priced per square with special terms for monthly or quarterly insertions.
The notice proclaims M. Graham, Esq. as a candidate for Ordinary of Bigefield District at the next election, and Levi BR. Wises as a candidate for Tax Collector. The text also contains scattered foreign news, trade commentary, and references to sugar markets, emigration efforts, and unrest in Ireland and France, interwoven with period notices.
A Southern Patriot letter argues to rename districts in South Carolina to honor Andrew Jackson and other notable natives such as Rutledge Gadsden Washington and Lowndes. It criticizes current district names for their foreign or aristocratic associations and urges the Legislature to act in its next session. It also proposes replacing town or borough suffixes with names like Jackson Rutledge Gadsden or Calhoun and suggests preserving some district capitals while renaming others.
