Rebels Attack Paducah in Civil War News Debacle

Dispatches from Cairo report Forrest with 7 000 men attacked Paducah on April 25. Rebels faced heavy defense, suffered hundreds of dead, and a nighttime fire destroyed the city front while gunboats bombarded the town to block occupation. Casualties and wreckage followed as reports mention losses on both sides and damage to hospitals gas works and residences.
