Washington January 15 The present congress has enacted only five public laws and eighteen private laws, with seven thousand four hundred fifty eight bills introduced in the House and one thousand eighty six reported. The decline in legislation ties to tariff focus and treasury strain, with many important measures awaiting hearings such as New Mexico and Oklahoma statehood, swamp land grants, consular migrant inspections, and canal projects from Lake Superior to the Mississippi.
