Cpl Francis Autrey 27, nephew of Dr and Mrs A and Acrey of Fort Arthur, indicates recovery after years in three Japanese POW camps. A 21 month old, Carry Lee Head, wandered onto railroad tracks as a Santa Fe train bound for Matagorda passed near Bay City. Neighbors and firemen rushed to intervene but the engine, coach, and freight cars went over him before the train could stop. The child appeared unharmed after the incident, though the event ended tragically for another child in the narrative.
