1954 Census for Colorado County Shows Decline in Small Farms
Colorado County census data show fewer small farms and rising ranching activity in 1954. Vegetables and fruits were grown on hundreds of farms for home use and sale, with recorded yields in crops like cotton, sweet potatoes, potatoes, and sorghum. The report notes increased land use and modest gains in some crops, alongside continued farm operations and market-oriented production.
