County agent Boyle K. Moore reports a two week rise in screwworm activity in South Texas. Producers urged to collect and bring specimens to office for quick confirmation by livestock inspectors and officials in El Camino or Austin. Early identification enables faster control measures as the eradication program enters a critical period.
Fire red warning as screwworm danger rises from September through November. Despite a successful eradication program this year, favorable weather and ranch activity boost infestations. Nine thousand two hundred cases were reported in November in Oklahoma and Iowa.
Local council announces an Achievement Day event scheduled midweek at home time. Key attendees include Mr Kc Lak and Ses, with community members invited to participate and observe. The notice emphasizes civic involvement and local recognition.
Applications are now available for the Navy eighteenth annual NROTC qualification test to be held December 14 1963. Eligible male high school seniors and graduates may apply at their school principal or nearest U S Navy Recruiting Station. Over 7000 young men are expected to receive college educations as Midshipmen in NROTC units across 32 colleges and universities nationwide after testing and interviews.
Charles F. Winkelmann says the 1964 Feed Grain Program mirrors 1963 but with two changes. Diversion allowance rises from 40 to 50 percent of farm feed grain base and farmers diverting 40 percent or more receive up to half the county price support rate. Acreage under 25 acres may still divert fully. Final payments for 1963 are underway.
Citizens from across the area attended the Universal Motor Company weekend showing of the 1964 Ford and Falcon line. S. S. The 1963 State Fair of Taxes opens Saturday October 5 and runs 16 days through October 20 with “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Flying” and horse shows slated for October 4. Gov John Connally will open the fair Saturday morning after the parade, as Rural Youth Day and many Texas Future Farmers and Homemakers attend. A Stars and Stripes parade and fairground events fill the day starting at 6:45 PM.

The Eagle Lake Woman's Home Demonstration Club met September 26 at Mrs A W Linke's home with 11 members and one guest Mrs Billy Gray present. Seventy five cancer dressings were made and refreshments served. The club voted $4 to the Consolidated Fund and will meet October 10 at 2 00 pm at Mrs Raymond Kobhleffel Sr's home. Attendees included local citizens who contributed sheets for dressings.
