A colored man, Maynard Anderson, jailed in Columbus County Jail after stabbing his wife at Zanzibar place. He is believed to have fled with no trace of his wife, FP A. Anerton. Sheriff and deputies, aided by Buckshot Lane and others, search Wharton County and surrounding areas as inquiries continue.
More than 700 registered at the Shell opening with attendees from Bos and nearby areas. The event featured supporters and a raffle with a Westinghouse RADSteOViA prize. Mars, Wh. bo Seu, was noted as the lucky winner among registrants.
Two sea lots sold as the 1950 rice season nears end. Bids on two other lots were rejected. Bids of 976 were accepted on the two Patna lots, with an additional bid noted but not taken. Local growers and American Rice Growers Association oversee the sale.
In Columbus, Tuesday and Wednesday brought a spate of traffic accidents with one fatality. Renny Kansteiner, 56, died Wednesday night at the Columbus Clinic after being struck by a car driven by T. Norworth of Arlington. Patrolman Wallace F. Croarder reported Kansteiner exited a vehicle near the crosswalk and was hit as Norworth’s car left the scene. The incident follows other local collisions including a crash west of the Anter bridge and a separate wreck near Glidden.
