Garwood Fair Hosts Social Honeycomb of Visitors
Garwood residents and guests flocked to the ninth annual Garwood Lions Club Fair with out of town visitors from Columbus Bloomington Weimar Eagle Lake Ell Campo Crescent Glen Flora Rock Island and other communities. Attendees included Mr and Mrs Tony Pinchback and family Mrs Edna Otto Mrs Ellen Battelle and families from La Grange Rosenberg and Port Lavaca along with local families. The event drew many relatives and friends for a weekend of carnival and social gatherings.

Garwood fair parade and pageant crown Jubilee Starlette event
Large throng packed the Garwood fairgrounds for a long parade featuring five area schools, the Wharton County Junior College Starlettes, and Pioneer Band. Prizes totaled 75 dollars across float and clown categories, with winners named from Garwood Garden Club, Methodist Church Wesleyan Guild, and FFA. The Starlettes dazzled at 10:45 am, followed by a 12 o’clock barbecue sellout and afternoon acts by Floyd Tillman and Poncho. Fairest of the Fair crowned Jeanette Labay with Donna Lou Thomas runner-up. prizes donated by local merchants awarded to residents of Garwood Nada Eagle Lake Columbus and Weimar.

County Tax Discounts Drop To 2 Per Cent Nov 2
Nov 2 is the final day to pay state county and ad valorem taxes with a 3 percent discount. Beginning Nov 3 the discount drops to 2 percent and remains through Dec 2. Announced by Henry J. Hajovsky, County Tax Assessor Collector.
