Garwood Bridge Destroyed by Colorado River Overflow
High water on the Colorado River wrecked the Garwood low water bridge. An estimated 200 feet of the middle span may be gone with only about 100 feet on the east side and unsigned remains on the west. Rail freight service via Santa Fe is uncertain as the bridge is out. An Altair to Eagle Lake road project is eyed to improve access, but a new Garwood crossing seems distant. County officials arranged right‑of‑way purchases for the Altair‑Eagle Lake highway and the highway commission will push for reconstruction constraints.
