Residents of Veater Canis District No 3 Si a Take will go to polls on Saturday July to vote on a proposition to issue 120000 in bonds for water and sewer improvements within the district. Polls will be open from 5:90 to the stated time with measures in place.
James Adkins of Lissie was named State President of the EUB Youth Fellowship at the State Assembly in Round Rock Texas. The 16 year old son of Mr and Mrs JL Adkins is a senior and has long served Christian leadership locally. Carolyn Conn an of Liste was chosen State Secretary and Jeanette Cruneys served as retiring president after leading the group.
The Evan gélical United Brethren Church will host a revival in July from the tenth through the seventeenth. The event aims to revive faith with daily preaching and expected turnout around seventy people.
Robert J. Durway, pastor of Maplewood, La, will preach at the morning worship service of the First Presbyterian Church here. The service marks the opening of the remodeled and air conditioned Sanctuary and Educational Building with an open house Sunday afternoon July 10 from 2:00 to 4:00. Friends are invited to attend.
A district restraining order directs Jaz Willis W to not interfere with Tennessee Gas Transmission Company employees servicing a pipeline across Nis land. A hearing on permanent injunction is set for July 10 at Columbus. The petition claims a drip device and alleged water removal issues, and asserts a 148.39 acre right of way granted June 19, 1952. The company seeks to maintain operate and alter the pipeline under rights of ingress and egress as alleged.
Local businesses in Eagle Lake will shut all day Monday July 4 observ ing Independence Day. The Post Office and First National Bank of Eagle Lake join the closing, per Chamber of Commerce list. Expect picnics and outings. nationwide celebration follows a period of heavy highway traffic and cautions to prevent accidents.
Through yesterday shipments of watermelons from Jesse B. Martin of Wharton, raised by Charlie and Alister Sempra in the Chesterville region, reach the western and northern markets. Melons are large and bring good prices as shipments continue through the weekend and into next week. Most cargoes have been consigned to Kansas City for East distribution.
Harold L Williams will assume management of the Humble Service Station on Last Mein Street opposite Alamo Lumber Company Friday July 1. Williams, formerly of Shell service in Richmond, brings extensive experience. Alfred Marx, veteran operator of the station for three years, will devote full attention to his Humble Station one mile west of Eagle Lake. Williams is son of Mr and Mrs S J Williams, Eagle Lake graduate, and ex Military Police member.
The Eagle Lake Chamber of Commerce board meeting, previously set for Monday, is postponed due to a holiday. Earl Rodgers Jr announces the directors will instead meet Monday, July 11, and committees are asked to note the change and plan attendance.
A revised stretch of road near Lissie, Wharton County, links West Bernard to Rosenberg via a new two lane concrete and asphalt route. A new Colorado River bridge at Altair enhances travel from Houston to San Antonio, boosting traffic to East Bernard and Lissie while easing access to local businesses.
Eagle Lake reports more than a half inch of rain fell Tuesday afternoon, soaking downtown areas while outskirts saw little precipitation. Three suspects now in custody in Columbus as investigation traces to January 3 hijacking at Jimmies Cats in Glidden. Edward Jimeyon detained in Tampa Florida. both men held on $20,000 bonds. Roundup involved multiple law enforcement agencies including the FBI.
