Farmers report corn and cotton suffering from hot sun and scarce rain while rice thrives under Lakeside Irrigation Company water. Rice yields look strong. corn and cotton need soaking rains to sustain and boost production. no boll weevil damage reported.
A local notice endorses Geoer BH Sheppard for Comptroller of Public Accounts. It states he was appointed by S. H. Terrell and has broad support from 71 friends in the area who are not committed to other candidates. The item praises Sheppard as a splendid man and notes Roberts also supports him.
At a Friday night meeting on June 13 the Masonic Lodge elected officers including Master C O Pennington and Senior Warden Noel Parker. Installation planned for June 27. Visitors and locals noted, with mentions of Hugo Bolton, football ties, and area melon shipments.
A Mexican baseball game is billed for next Sunday with high expectations. The event promises an exceptional showcase, drawing fans from local communities and featuring notable players and competitive play.
East Bernard plans a large July 4th event at Riverside Park hosted by the American Legion Post and SP 0.6.7 Lodge. Wichita Falls attorney general candidate James V. Assistant Southern Pacific Lines superintendent Mr T Bednark visited Eagle Lake and urged engineers to curb shrill whistle sounds at crossings. He said calls to refrain from unnecessary whistling were issued after a prior Headlight article and that engineers agree to reduce noise without compromising safety.
Newton Dennis aged 45 died in Palacios Friday night after lingering illness and was brought to Wharton for burial in the Dennis family plot. Funeral services were held at the Baptist Church Sunday at 10 o'clock. Survived by sister Miss Nannie Dennis of Wharton and brothers Judge J. H. H. Dennis of Wharton and Dr. Mulls Dennis of Cleburne. Also notes Mr and Mrs C M Mayfield leaving Wharton to settle in Kansas. Mayfield was an auto body repairman at Davis Service Station. Brought up Eagle Lake area earlier. Mrs B E Daughtry of Georgetown visiting Miss Mattie Muysteider.
Alleyton dance hall committee announces a barbecue and dance in July as entertainment during the rap shooting period. Event aims to draw crowds and support community morale amid political tensions.
Beatrice Colbert 26 of Angleton died in an automobile crash near Eagle Lake while traveling with her sister and relatives to visit in Gonzales and Kerrville. She is survived by her mother Mrs. Bradford and several siblings. burial planned in Brenham after services at Eagle Lake. Nearby, Camp Adelante guests and local residents are noted, with community notices about the Fourth of July edition and local travels.
Mrs Mary Nicolai aged 72, a former resident of Columbus, died in Houston on Monday. The announcement names Mrs Bertha Nicolai as another sister and notes family ties to the Columbus area.
All stores will be closed on July 4th in Eagle Lake with Friday shopping advised early. The Headlight issue will move to Thursday afternoon to give staff a few days off, and advertising copy is due by Tuesday noon.

Ramon Navarro stars in In Gay Madrid at the Avalon with a cast led by Dorothy Fordan Lettice Howell Claude King and others. The Spanish setting features six songs by Xavier Cugat and collaborators plus additional numbers by Roy Turk Ahlert and more.

Rev J C Wilson of the local Methodist church reports from Chicago where about twenty thousand Rotarians gather for the convention. He notes delegates from around the world and compliments the courtesy and kindness he encounters. He expects to return in time to preach next Sunday.
Mrs William Michaelis of Cat Spring died after an illness treated at Methodist Hospital in Houston. Interment was in Cat Spring Cemetery. She was an old prominent citizen of Cat Spring and was held in high esteem by all who knew her.
