Texas law requires house trailers to have titles under the Certificate of Title Law. Owners must present evidence of ownership including manufacturer certificates for new units or weight affidavits for older trailers. If the serial number is altered or stamped, the department may assign a new serial number upon proper application.
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 4:00 from the Mill Funeral Home for J M Hutchins who died of a heart attack June 18 at age 51. Hutchins, a Milam County native, had lived in the Lissie community for seven years. The service included hymns sung by a Lissie choir with Mrs. Helen Smith at the piano. Local naval honors were noted for Seaman Johnnie David Hutchings posthumous Congressional Medal of Honor action in the New Guinea invasion, with dignitaries present and messages of condolence from Rear Admiral Merrill.
The fifth Jenkins Day party hosted by Eagle Lake Rotary Club members and guests at Rotarian J. G. Jenkins home in Rock Island featured hospitality by Mr and Mrs Jenkins and their son Garriet. Ambassador Fletcher Warren spoke on Rotary in the nations and US Latin American ties. President Wallace Lindsay and guests heard group singing as the program wrapped with appreciation for club cooperation.
The Headlight announces publication will be on Thursday to meet the Eagle Lakt Fourth of July deadline. Advertisers and correspondents are urged to submit copy early next week and contact the office with any news. The staff will enjoy a three day weekend, with the office never closed on Saturday July 5th.
Eagle Lake city officials meet in a called session to discuss fire hazards and ordinances with Fire Marshal Smith and Fire Chief Dipple. The plan includes strict enforcement with fines for violations such as parking in front of fire plugs and blocking fire access. Officials urge public cooperation to prevent fires and protect residents, noting new articles will be published to educate citizens.
No rodeo program scheduled at the arena for tonight. Two rodeo events are planned in Homebekd Friday and Saturday, while the arena will not host shows next Friday July 4 due to the Columbus independence Day events.
A Colorado county school board hearing decided to hold an election on July 8 to determine if the Garwood district shall annex the Calhoun common school district and form a rural high school district. The Calhoun delegation urged denial or failure of the request, and action was postponed to July 8. The board also annexed New Brunn No 29 and New Bistau No 12 to the Weimar independent district to form another rural high school district. Attendees included local officials from Weimar Eagle Lake Frelsburg and county superintendent Wooten.
The City Council has not called an election to elect a mayor to succeed H W Graves who resigned on June 1. No council statement on intentions has been received and no meeting is scheduled until July. A Monday council meeting on fire hazards reportedly took no action on the mayoralty.
A 25 car train is expected to arrive by the Southern Pacific Lines this weekend carrying cattle from Kissimmee Florida for W. R. Frankw of Garwood. The shipment is bound for Rock Island to stock pastures there.
Supt. W C Reed, in discussing Henry Haase Sr s claim that the board acted in children s best interest, cites census figures for Altair district. He notes 97 scholastics with 81 Negro and 16 white in the detachment area and details land and railroad mileage allocations favoring six white and all Negroes remaining outside the detachment. The piece accuses the board of prioritizing money over children and ends mid-sentence with a continuation note.
The Froka Families Association held its ninth annual reunion at Hillcrest near Columbus on Sunday June 22. Members registered at 9 30 and enjoyed a noon barbecue chicken dinner, followed by a group photo. New officers named include Fred G Frnka as president and Mrs Frank Neivar as secretary. A memorial minute honored deceased members. attendees came from Austin Bartlett Columbus Corpus Christi and Eagle Lake among others.
Den No 1 showcased a cowboy stone and horse ride with Joe Curtis, while Den No 4 staged an Indian war dance and pledge. Den No 3 held an Indian wigwam and drum ceremony as mothers, visitors, and leaders looked on, ending with a picnic lunch.
Eagle Lake merchants will close to celebrate Independence Day. This annual city agreement has no formal celebration. surrounding communities plan programs. Next Friday is the holiday, and business shutdowns are expected citywide.
A revival at First Evangelical United Brethren Church in Lissie runs July 1 to 13 with evangelist Perry E. Pyle of Brookville Pa. and wife Mrs. Pyle, a pianist, leading nightly services except Mondays under pastor Rev N E Peterson. Pyle, praised in the Evangelical United Brethren Church, will also conduct revivals in nearby cities.
The Colorado Fayette County Medivet Society held its monthly gathering in Columbus with host Dr. J A Wooten Jr. Present were doctors wives and press from Colorado and Fayette counties. Dr B E Pickett Sr of Carizo Springs Texas was unable to attend due to a cloudburst isolating him. Dr F J L Blasingame of Sporting stood in.
Mr and Mrs A A Curtis and children Nancy Joe and Zara Alurie plan to move to Brenham where Mrs Curtis will serve as manager of the Dixie Feed Wholesale Saddlery subsidiary of the Dixie Poultry farm. The Curtis family previously lived in Eagle Lake and regret leaving friends as they start anew. The move follows Aly Cu becoming manager of Campbell Food and Supply Stove.
A group of Eagle Lake sportsmen traveled to Port Aransas to explore various fishing methods in Musico Gut. Participants included J R Reed and J H Clipton among others, with Beek man and Griff Thomas Jr appearing in the lineup.
