Open house announced by New Rice Industries Inc on Friday from 1 to 3 pm. The event showcases newly installed equipment including an auto system and other machinery, inviting employees and local readers to view the facility and products.
The Chamber calls for meat donations valued at 1966 for a July 4th barbecue or resale if desired. The chamber does not require businessmen to run the meat fence or sell tickets unless they choose. “Your support is intensely needed. Please be as generous as you can,” urges Peteene Baker, chamber president.
Liseie Evangelical Church announces changes to Sunday worship and Sunday School times this week. Morning worship moves to 9 45 am and Sunday School to 10 30 am 22, with two services scheduled this Sunday to accommodate campers. Pastor Kirby notes the Vocation Bible School will run July 5 through 16 and aims to prepare students for the summer program.
TCM's Tait Plant resumes operations after a brief shutdown lasting just over a week. Houston firm installed equipment swiftly enabling a return to near full production, with plant officials thanking partners and workers for cooperation during the restart.
Fifty local youths aged 10 to 17 join the Summer Traces Program at the local school under coaches Eckies, Miller, Barkies, and Mira. Events start Thursday at 6 30 p.m. at Columbus Vigil Show Stadium with boys field events and turning events, ribbons awarded to top four in each division, squads from Eagle Lake Sealy and Columbus sponsoring.
A standard course titled Walking With Jesus will run daily from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. with Mrs. Frank Higsing appointed director of the school.
A Colaraga County Travel Trails Committee formed Tuesday morning after a meeting of city officials and civic leaders called by County Judge Chirles D. Rutta in Columbus. The state Texas Travel Trails group aims to guide motorists to historic, scenic, and recreational sites by marking travel trails across the state. Dudley Baker was named temporary chairman, with Elsie Matfern as temporary secretary and members from Columbus Weimar and Eagle Lake to be named by mayors. The committee will meet at 2 pm on Tuesday June 20 in Columbus to begin drafting a county report due by June 20.
Dexter Anderson won the deputy district governor at large post during Lions International District 259 proceedings in Austin. Alberioh secured the office unopposed and will contend for district governor in 1968 89. Mary Lou Laughlin of Big Lake and Joyce Kranch of Garwood were among 35 contestants for District Queen honors, which went to an entry-framed contestant.
Burglaries struck three sites in the Garwood area and one in Wade over the past week. Entries included Garwood Implement Co and Garwood Lumber Co with broken glass and forced doors. Stolen items included a shotgun, reels, fishing rods, and two watches while other sites reported minimal losses. Deputies Frank Wessel Sul and Floyd Schichting investigated, noting small openings suggest juvenile involvement.

Parker’s 5 and 10 announces a Monday and Tuesday picture event offering Kiddie Portraits in a 11 14 size for $2.00. A Kiddie Portraits of Houston photographer will be at the store from 2:06 to 9:30 p.m. on both days. Children and adults are invited to have portraits taken.
Hotel Paradise will be featured as the third in a series of free Saturday morning to afternoon movies at the Rice Theatre in Lake. The event, sponsored by local merchants, attracts families with activities for all ages. Tickets are distributed at the theatre. participating merchants are listed on the back of the ticket.
A cattle grub control demonstration and discussion is planned for Wednesday afternoon at the Jersey Zalopek Ranch, starting 2:00 pm, near Columbus Farm Road 200. Lyndon K. Almand of Texas A&M University will participate along with industry representatives to review systemic treatment methods and potential carcass improvements for livestock.
Billy Maness of Central Power and Light, a veteran employee in Eagle Lake for 12 years, is promoted to a data processing position at CPL's Corpus Christi home office. Boniface Parma, formerly CPL serviceman in El Campo, will succeed him as messenger and cashier in Eagle Lake, moving here this week. Parma is a West Marine native who began at CPL in 1955 as a motor reader before advancing, and Maness plans to reside with his family on Prairie Street. Maness has been active in civic groups here, including the Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club, and Little League, while Parma brings prior service experience and local roots to the new post. The notice closes with a Bible verse line.
The Eagle Lake Chamber of Commerce and Jaycees prepare for the annual Fourth of July celebration with a new brochure, distribution to 10 900 copies, and tickets for a Judy barbecue fundraiser. Fire damage at the pool prompts repairs and safety checks, while an air show and community center events are scheduled for the holiday weekend.
County commissioners discuss bids for 25 miles of new paving and 14 miles of seal coating across multiple precincts.
