State Game Warden Tom Waddell of Eagle Lake will retire August 31 after 82 years of service. He served with the Texas Game, Fish and Oyster Commission, won praise for wildlife conservation work, and was a leading expert in otology and wildlife. He led wildlife dealings and developed techniques for tracking deer and other prey, and owns a large collection of mounted animals.

Officials urge caution as road washouts occur and travel is disrupted since May 15 due to constant water flow.
Senior Girl Scouts of Troay Wo. 1 will sponsor a Bridge Lunch eon for the Jaffes of Eugie Lette at the Community Center tomorrow afternoon June 6 to help raise money for their Washington trip. Mrs. Prank Pidgeon announces she and Mr. Pidgeon will be on vacation in the last three weeks of June. Their daughter Miss Martha Pidgeon will handle all Community Center bookings and appointments from the Chamber of Commerce Office during that period.
Rachel Anne Terrell is announced as the Headlight Society Editor succeeding the late editor. A Wharton County Junior College graduate and Whiterton High School alumna, she will oversee announcements, parties, special events, and guest invitations with reader cooperation. New staff at the paper include Shirley Freaks and Steve Taylor.
Mrs Parker and Mrs Collins announce the sale of their C and P Store to Mix 208 Mrs Johnson. The new owner takes over July 1. The Collins and Tarx family founded the C and P four years ago on the east side square. The Johnsons, previously of the Beedames Collins, operated a variety store in Eagle Lake for twelve years and also run the Rice Theatre, which will continue.
Last rites were held in Columbus and Melt for Alex J. Jones Sr a longtime Bernardo resident and former constable of over thirty years He died after a heart attack on Sunday at Langhiin Hospital at 8 30 PM He is survived by his wife and four daughters including Mrs Sem Marsalin
A large Gulf Coast golf gathering will compete in the Eagle Lake Recreation Center Open Tournament on Sunday. Sixty-nine players will tee off at 7 AM with prizes for top nine-hole scores and overall totals. barbecue dinner served 11 AM to 2 PM, proceeds to the church building fund.
Vacation Bible Schools open at Colly Memorial Methodist, First Baptist, and Catholic churches. Colly church runs June 10 to 21 with afternoon sessions and an open house Friday morning. First Baptist offers two week program June 17 to 21 with nursery through junior levels and a closing night. Catholic altar notes a three week session starting June 17 with Holy Communion for first communicants and night classes for high school youth.
A Memorial Day weekend deer collision near Campbell's Drive Inn Cafe one mile west of Bag Lake involved Victor Sassin Wharton County deputy and Marvin Leroy Dennis of El Campo. The two cars traveling in opposite directions collided with minor injuries and about 209.90 dollars damage reported.
Eagle Lake residents mourn the death of F A Hoetinghaus who died Tuesday morning at Hermes Hospital in Houston after a serious illness and a May 28 operation. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 3 00 p m at the Memorial Methodist Church with Rev Charles Walton officiating. Burial followed at Mason Cemetery with nephews as pallbearers. Funeral arrangements were handled by Milbauer Funeral Home. Hoeninghaus, born October 4 1887 near Douton, was the son of Heinticl and Maria Sofe Hoentzchaus.
