A Texas water plan unveiled by Gov. Conachly and the Texas Water Development Board proposes a major increase in dam capacity at Columbus Bend, creating a broader system of 54 reservoirs and a $1.5 billion waste treatment network. The plan envisions moving surplus water from the Red River basin to Fort Worth and Dallas, then through the Trinity, Brazos, Colorado, and Nueces rivers to support irrigation and industry across West and South Texas, with hearings to follow in 27 cities and final adoption by August. Two Wharton high school faculty members were injured when a 1963 Chevrolet driven by Bennie Brill Skrovan collided broadside with a passing 1968 GMC truck and trailer about a mile north of Garwood on Highway 71 at 6 20 am last Friday. Skrovan sustained broken ribs and a cracked vertebrae. passenger Beverly Ann Beauchamp had head and facial lacerations and back pain. Skrovan transferred to Wharton Hospital. Beauchamp released from Laughlin Memorial Hospital. The car was a total loss.
Dr. Louis Landa, former Eagle Citizen, earns a second Guggenheim Fellowship to conduct research abroad. The grant supports study in Europe and England with Gursenneim backing. Landa began at Eagle Lake High School under teachers Mollie Davidson and Lizale Westmore.
Gladys Marie Alley daughter of Mr and Mrs Wiley W Alley and Frederick Michael Owens united in a quiet home ceremony at eight o'clock Saturday evening May Bist. The Rev Homer Weimer read the service at 62 Colly Place. Attendees included Miss Jeanie Ly Marsalia and John Wayne Alley.
