A local woman described as the former Eagle Bake-Child died in a house fire after suffering severe burns. She reportedly passed away at a city hospital shortly after the incident, as investigators begin to piece together the sequence of events and the cause of the blaze.

Services for Frith James Woreck, 63, a former Houston lumberman, were held in the nearby Suntey church. He grew up in Gagte Like where he attended public schools before the family moved to Coldwell. He will be remembered by older citizens in the community.
Mr and Mrs F G Sith of New York arrived in Bates Tuesday on a trip via New Orleans and stay with Mr J B Smith and his wife. The visit marks Mr Sith’s first to this Texas area as he tours the region with family. Mr Smith, connected with the New York Central railway, notes the harsh winter weather affecting railroads and contrasts it with New York City conditions.
Crews are testing the Powell B-2 well after sands were encountered in the re-Sterling unit. The well was perforated from 6102 to 614 feet and a drawdown test indicated water and indications of oil. Everett Walleura, son of Mr and Mrs Robert Walleura of Garworl, died at Rosenberg Hospital Saturday night after a severe year of illness. Pastoral services were held Monday at 10, with burial in the local Catholic cemetery. Rev Faber CG J Benes officiating. Pallbearers were Viola Paskus, Virginia Braden, Clara Marek and Florence Arnvid, all dressed in white.
Funeral services were held Sunday at Dubin near Weimar for John Holub, 58, lifelong resident. He is survived by his wife, two sons Emil and Victor, and several relatives in Weimer and Nada, with a sister of Mrs Hugo Keenly.
Four horses belonging to E H Rodgers and a horse with two mules owned by H A Drowgogle in Eldridge area died in a week as they fell sick and blinded suddenly then died. Drowgogle waded a mule to a trailer and rushed it to A M College for veterinary diagnosis and treatment.
From Shiner Gazette Priday evening the fire department was called to the home of Mrs Rosanne Howard. A large skillet of grease burst and flames reached her left arm, face, and hair while she tried to extinguish it. Her daughter Beck received minor burns while aiding. Mrs Howard received prompt medical attention and aimed to return to duties at the high school Monday.
