A Webb burglary report notes one arrest after intruders damaged a shop front and attempted entry at Elekar Live and the neighboring unit. The culprits fled toward a Shell Station where they spoke with a bread delivery driver to drive them back, police say. The account continues on the next page.
Lake area band students start a magazine subscription drive this week at Sagle Lake High and Junior High. Students promote two magazine subs to raise funds for boosters, urging supporters to help despite unclear details from the ad.
Police report a weekend burglary at a Lake Eagle Gun Club area residence. Thieves forced entry and stole two shotguns, a pistol, clothing, eyeglasses, cash, and other items. Authorities issued warrants for several suspects.
Colorado County officials fail to agree on how to divide proceeds from license plate sales. Commissioner Jenicke and Commissioner Daventtsker argue over precinct shares, last year allocations were 35 24 15 and 29 percent. Court to discuss at future meeting while other bids and a $400000 deposit into certificates of deposit are approved.
Colorado County's grand jury for the February term reported to Judge W. W. Ell at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday with sixteen indictments, fifteen felonies and one misdemeanor, including three for a crime with intent to murder. Genel A. Camancha was indicted for assault with intent to murder and burglary, plus two additional counts for breaking into a store near Kokonul Grove by Clidden on December 26.
Scout Troop 334 will sponsor a display at Eagle Lake behind the Jaycee Pool from 2 to 5 PM this Saturday February 5 observing the 15th anniversary of Bay Scouting. Tents camp fires and related activities will be shown and the public is invited to attend.
Gene Kremling opens Gulf Service Station at 743 East Main formerly Finney's Gulf Station inviting locals to visit. The station will be Gene's Gulf Station offering Gulf products tires batteries and auto accessories plus friendly service. Kremling, a Shiner native, previously worked a decade as a Dr Pepper route salesman.
Youth Dance Club Montezuma hosts a teenage dance on Friday February 4 Calelotive's Day for members and guests. Cherry and the Reverbs will perform Turnish music. Admission is 50 cents per person. Event starts at 6 30 PM.
The Ladies of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church will sell Mexican food and barbecued chicken at Andrew Bazjan Hall near Guadalupe Church this Saturday. Doors open at 1:00 p m.
Mr and Mrs George R Burke announce Rozzie Rozzi appears on the Dean s List at Cornell University in Miraca New York with a 352 average as a sophomore student.
Jaycees Meet presents the Royal Maid Cagers in a benefit game Tuesday at Exels Lake High School gym at 6 50 p.m. Gate opens and a later 8 30 p.m. tip time. Adults pay 1 50 and students 1 00. The Eagles Lake team, known as Americas Most Watchable Basketball Troupe, perform a halftime show with trick shots, passing and dribbling routines.
The Rice Consolidated ISD board extended three top administrators contracts for three years through June 1972. New contracts were approved for four principals at Garwood and Eagle Lake schools. The board accepted the band director’s resignation, authorized boiler bids, and appointed a new Eagle Lake police juror. An expanded summer program for math science and social studies was approved for students who failed subjects. Architectural plans for a new high school and custodial and admin buildings were reviewed.
Eagle Lake city announces an April 5 election to fill the mayoral post and three two year council terms. Incumbents Harald Thomas Allen D Cas Sadley R L Coox and Kenneth Mahall hold terms to April 5 with filings open until midnight March to the city secretary Miss Lucille Perry. Oliver Shevis and Les Cuers terms carry over.
Sherif George Muller said burglars entered through an unlocked door at a Seymour store and fled with a Winchester Model 270 with scope and a Remington 700 with scope. No break-in signs were found. door may have been left unlocked.
Eagle Lake residents may bring trash and debris for free dumping Friday from 8 am to end of day. The Ramsey-out-off road access is four miles west of the city, across from the TUM operation.
Sheriff George Mueller announces Johnny Mathis is appointed special deputy with duties in his part time role. Mueller says the department has eight special deputies and is employing seven, with one assigned to an unnamed position in the Sheridan area.
Garwood Volunteer Firemen will hold their annual benefit ball at the Nick Junior Hall on Friday February 1. The public is invited to attend with proceeds benefiting the fire department. The band will provide music for dancing and admission will be a donation to the fire department.
Tax group 10 plans a county tour February 17 through March 10 to issue 1960 license plates and collect 1969 taxes. Stops include Weimar, Eagle Pass, Garwood, Oakland, Sheridan, and other towns with exact dates and locations listed. Proof of 1960 license eligibility required and farm or ranch use restrictions apply.
Citizens are invited to the Eagle Lake Rotary annual Hot Cake Supper at the Community Center Tuesday evening with sausages and beverages. Proceeds go to club projects. Also Garwood FFA to hold its annual market and swine sale with calves, hogs, and rabbits, plus a barbecue lunch and trail ride event hosted by the Garwood Lions Club.
A gathering at Garwood High School cafeteria on Thursday February 2d at 7 30 p m will feature Extensio n specialists from Texas A and M University discussing chemical grass and weed control insect control recommendations harvest and marketing feasibility and other topics for efficient cotton production in the area. Participants include Hred Elliott Weldon Newton and B G Reeves with refreshments provided after the program by local sponsors.
Roy T Marshall, Rice consolidated Independent School District business manager, will visit Hopkins, Gargood, Sheridan, and Nellmann's Gkocotyny Nadie to discuss school tax and business affairs. Patrons invited to meet him during Feb visits in Bayle Lake and surrounding communities.
Members of Club Montezuma invite the public to a dance at the Eagle Lake Community Center starting at 9:00 p.m. Saturday February 15 featuring music by the Knights of Dixie.
In Socredy County 656 residents registered during a free period ending January, 241 fewer than 1968. Eagle Lake remains the largest precinct, with Weimar second and Shaws Bend noting gains. Precinct counts list varied drops and a few increases across Garwood, Rock Island, Sheridan, Oakland, and Brushy areas.
Mrs. Riley Wiese and child return to Eagle Lake to make their home while Mr Wiese will work with the US Air Force in Saigon in the accounting and payroll department. The family had been living in Dallas.
The Eagle Lake Chamber of Commerce will hold its first official meeting of the 1089 year at 2:40 p.m. next Monday in the council room of the municipal building. All directors and committee members are urged to attend. Robert Griffith, president, says committees should have preliminary reports for directors. Finances for the dues drive will be set after canvassing merchants’ cards mailed this week.
The First Presbyterian Church of Lag Lake hosts an open house Sunday afternoon from 3 to 5 to honor Pastor Ray F Mulliner and his wife on their twenty fifth wedding anniversary. Fellowship Hall of Haven Meters Of Wie congregation invited.
The Rice Consolidated Independent District Board of Trustees adopted a formal drugs and narcotics policy citing Attorney General guidance. The policy allows expulsion for students possessing or under the influence of drugs during school or school functions after due process, with consequences including loss of credits for the semester.
