The State Legislature completed action to extend the time for payment of automobile licenses. The bill extends payment time by 60 days from February 1. The House passed the Senate bill 63 to 4. the Senate approved 27 to 3, sending the measure to the Governor for signature.
Mrs Marcia Carter a longtime Columbus resident died peacefully last Friday at 72 She was born in Granada Spain July 3 1844 and came to Texas at age seven widow of A Carter She raised W Palen and E F Munford in Eagle Lake Funeral services were conducted by Rev E Morgan with interment in Odd Fellows Cemetery The community recalls her as a gentle kind woman who influenced many and was fondly remembered by her caregivers and relatives
Penney Company operates four stores today located in untapped ore districts. No formal plans announced for expansion.
George W. Lowrey aged 80, former Colorado County citizen, died at Ella Palmer Street home in Houston. Survived by two daughters, two brothers, two grandsons and a granddaughter. Funeral held at Settegast Funeral Home with Rev. Beierherson officiating. Burial in Rosewood Park Cemetery. Local friends extend sympathy to Mrs Thames and family.
The executive committee of the Interscholastic League met in Columbus and set the county meet dates for Weimar on March 24 and 25. Plans include spelling and essay contests, eliminations known beforehand, and ample staffing. McDonald notes programs will be mailed to participating schools to avoid conflicts, with officials ensuring orderly events and immediate handling of complaints.
Mrs J C Kennedy and daughter Mrs O H Koensel, both of Dallas, spent a few days here to bring home Mrs Ning Yor, the Kennedy’s mother. They left yesterday for Corpus Christi where Mr Kennedy, recently named president of Central Power and Light Company, will relocate with the family after six years in Dallas. The company designates Corpus Christi as its new headquarters.
Work on Wel lar Degan streets began Thursday under road commissioner Frank Seifert. To aid the unemployed at Wermer, $300, counted by the RC, funds labor costs. The city supplies gravel and county equipment and teams are used in the project.
Mrs Hos W graves returned from Blum after her mother suffered injuries in a car crash on the highway. The older woman, though knocked unconscious briefly, was tended by responders and later recovered enough to be moved to return home. Roy Walter E Rodgers, pastor, attended a minister's retreat in San Marcos and plans to resume regular services on Sunday.
Mrs William Roecker died at the family home in Glen Flora after a long life starting in Germany. Born March 19 1846 she married Mr Roecker and moved from Wisconsin to Texas then Glen Flora. Funeral at El Campo Lutheran Church with Rev Schmidt. burial in Lutheran Cemetery near Glen Flora. Survived by husband and children Minnie Emil Paul Charles Wie of Glen Flora Clara Roecker of San Antonio Amelia Gasley Rosebud Tillie Chiles Charleston West Virginia Otto Roecker Seattle Washington.

Cecilia Frnka wife of J s Prominent busts men of that town died at the family home Monday in the 67th year. Funeral services held Thursday were largely attended with many county residents present. She was sister-in-law of Attorney Jos. V a of Columbus and related to Frnka and Kalina families of nearby towns.
Garwood resident known as Uncle John Braden dies after a three month illness at 7:05 PM in his Garwood home. He is survived by four sons Louis Edmund Otto and three daughters including Mrs. Lee Richardson and Mrs. Katie Ludwig. Funeral was held Wednesday at 1 or 2 o’clock with burial in Nada Cemetery. Braden lived near Vox Populi for years and moved to Garwood twenty years ago. A man of sturdy character, his word and integrity were trusted by many. The Headlight extends deepest sympathy to the sorrowing family.
Representative Frito Engelhard helps pass a bill amending county and district road bond payments from the gasoline tax. The State Treasurer will issue pay warrants. funds stay in the treasury longer, earning interest. Result, savings for Texas and smoother bond maturities.
Cher G B Skelton suffered a severe attack of acute indigestion on Monday night and Tuesday. he was in critical condition but is now much improved. His physician cautions against rushing recovery as he restages in bed while watchers express relief at his improvement and intent to return downtown soon.
Plournay and a former Celoriado County citizen faced charges after a fatal injury to O M Moseley during a refinery dispute in Gladewater. Jurors imposed 60 days in jail and a $200 fine. Defense said Moseley’s brother attacked Plournay, who fought back. The disturbance began over critiqued cowboy boots.
The Eggle Lake to Matthews road from the Garwood branch line to Matthews is being surfaced with gravel donated by J A Frazar from land near the golf course. I V Duncan furnishes teams for hauling at nominal cost. Commissioner H T Reecing and Commissioner Reading plan to extend graveling toward Eldridge levee and Garwood, with a trestle or bridge to create an all season road. Work includes widening the Altair bridge approach from 16 to 20 feet and improving the Altair river bridge approach, with a goal of a gravel road from Eagle Lake to the Altair river bridge.
The Studeman family will relocate to Palacios on the 15th where Henry Studeman will serve as manager for Central Power and Light. After years as Eagle Lake manager, he leaves behind many friends and a growing town. Elmore Shien takes over CP and L duties here as they depart.
A Q P Store was burglarized Tuesday night by entering via an upper back window. About 19.50 in cash and a small amount from the cash register were taken, with the money left in a paper sack on a shelf. Police suspect the owner had no connection to the burglary.
Mrs August Schindler and Mr Mick Schindler from north of Eagle Lake suffered pneumonia attacks. They were taken to Sealy Hospital and are now homebound while recovering at presstime, awaiting full recovery as weather improves.
Ray Spdusky and his brother John White, both of Bugle, arrested here by Sheriff Fiesgemeever and Dolve Loy for Rock Island grocery burglary. A Ford stolen from Mrs. Jon Zimliska was found loaded with groceries near Eagle Lake, tied to the same case. Police recovered groceries and a large amount of stolen goods from the car and scene.
Claude Brewer of Eldridge, son in law of H. S. Vineyard, lies in very serious condition at Carer Valley Hospital in Wharton after an appendicitis operation on Wednesday. He had been at home in Eldridge a week and came to Eagle Lake to consult a doctor Tuesday afternoon. The appendix had burst, and doctors say his condition remains critical. The family hopes for his gradual recovery despite the illness.
