Nearly seventy performers compose the minstrel show cast with many children. Rehearsals run this week and two big evenings of entertainment are planned. Tickets are on sale at Luna Drug Store, 50 cents for adults and 25 cents for children. Curtain times set for 7.00. George Selladay leads the cast.
Nada Correspondent reports the death of Mrs W M Griffitts on January 26 in Houston after a brief illness. She was 24 years old and survived by her husband Judge Griffitts, two sons, a daughter, and several siblings and relatives. Funeral services were held at St Marys Catholic on Monday at 10 o clock with a solemn requiem high mass. Interment followed at Marys cemetery. The obituary notes her move to Nada at age two, marriage in 1919, and her community as a loving mother and neighbor.
The Frank Stephenson Company enlarges its quarters at the Farther Building with a new space. The expanded area will be used for implements and hens, affecting farm work and local industry.
Astronomers report a partial solar eclipse observable locally from about 4 02 a m to 10 45 a m with maximum eclipse around 8 49 a m. Mrs. B W Ahlers and Mr R B Hi Dunlavy left by car for Dotuia to join Mrs Ahlers father, George E Beil, at the Big Grande Walk.
Mr and Mrs Sam H Stoyles announce the birth at St Joseph Infir on Tuesday of Mary Anneli, first child for Beagles' mother. The infant is named Mary Anneli and is welcomed by grandmother Mrs A E Witter and Judge Strickland family where Len Strickland is noted as a prominent figure in Eagle Lake.
Ben and Roseana Howard hosted a Tuesday night bridge party at their home with guests including Pete Reese, Wini Koluerg, Billsbeth Westmoreland, Josephine Stkins, Mrs Genevive Alley, Dennis Fittman, Ace McKinley, Daughtery Reading, Fish Keneer, Frank Johns, and Miss Jane Reed. Marie Wicker of Attair Wasamattz visited the city last Saturday.
A Presidents Birthday Ball drew crowds in Antii's Hall and other towns Wednesday night while Eagle Lake saw lighter attendance due to late start. Manly, after the Antii event, traveled to Columbus where the opera house reportedly hosted the largest dance crowd ever seen there. the Columbus dance committee sold over 500 tickets.
The Danciger Oil and Refining No 16 L Raver well near Rever Jend, three miles west of Garwood in abstract Wo 225, is expected to drill toward 5100 feet in the Horkleyensis shale. Formation tests and reports suggest deeper drilling may occur, with tensions around 5100 feet and the potential for new finds as drilling proceeds. Union Central Oil has filed a survey nearby, with a possible well within the next year, though no firm plans exist to drill soon.
Mr B B Boetterer hosts a modern dance at River side Pavilion East Bernard beginning 8 40 Saturday night February 2. Admission is 1 25 tax included. The Aggilland Orchestra from College Station provides music and previously played for dances here. The Nada K J T Hall promotes a Thursday night event February 7 with Blume’s Orchestra of LaGrange.
Friends rejoice as Mrs Thos Waddell shows improved condition following a severe back injury from a car crash near the A and M College after a football game. She has been confined to bed but can sit up with assistance from a steel brace and remains under care.
Mrs Carter Walker was taken to Caney Valley Hospital in Wharton late Friday after becoming ill. She was able to come home Monday and has since been steadily improving. Friends hope she will soon be entirely well again.
Mrs J P Madson of Austin and son J F of El Paso were visitors Sunday morning, accompanied by Mrs Ed Dovgany of Blessing who is a student at Texas University. Mrs Devents younger brother George visited Mrs Sallie Westmorelang. J F an air conditioning engineer for El Paso Electric stopped here by train for a visit en route home from a trip to the East.
Howston Ham aged 28 was operating paving machinery on Highway 71 near Garwood when his left arm was severed at the elbow after the machine caught him. The accident occurred about 7:30 Tuesday morning. First aid was given at Garwood, then he was transported by ambulance to Caney Valley Hospital in Wherton with Dr. W E Little and Dr. Tittle accompanying.
A Richmond editor and his family sampled smoked buffalo meat for the first time in years, courtesy of Mr. and Mrs. A. B. George. The sausage came from L. A. Schreiner of the Schreiner Brothers who own ranches near Kerryville. The meat is dark and dry yet palatable, similar to chipped beef, and the gesture was appreciated.
The county basketball tourney will be held in Columbus at the Opera House on Thursday Friday and Saturday nights. Eagle Lake Weimar Columbus and Weimar Wildcats are entered with Wharton official Raye guiding the games. Local fans expect a fast contest as Weimar aims to defend the county title amid strong Columbus and Eagle Lake squads. Mrs White returns home from surgery in Wharton, reporting improvement.
