Inflation Hits Colorado County Families Hard
Colorado County residents face sharp purchasing power erosion as the standard market basket costs rise about 7 percent this year, 22 percent over four years. A family’s needed income climbs from 1966 levels, with examples: a $9,000 income now requires about $6,080. $6,500 → $7,900. $7,500 → $9,100. $10,000 → $12,200. Unemployment and fixed incomes feel the most pain while taxes outpace other budget items. Retail spending in the past year reached $5,651 per local family, well above four-year-old costs.
