Eagle Lake reports an excellent fire loss record for 1965 with 36 calls so far. Firemen logged 600 volunteer hours, with 11 out of town alarms and 24 in town. Major incidents included a hotel fire, a box car blaze, and a bill Chavis rent house fire in January. Last call was at Mrs. Helen Smith’s home in Lissie due to faulty wiring, already contained by then.

Rice Theatre Holiday Hours And Feature Change
The Rice Theatre in Eagle Lake will open 2 30 to 6 30 on Christmas Day with two showings at 2 20 and 4 30 on Christus Day. Regular showings begin 7 00 PM Christmas Eve. The feature was switched from Basch Ball to Nene Hur the Brave starring Sinatra Walker and Sands. The owners request cooperation in special hours so they may share part of Christmas Day with family.

Pete Canaris reported a cooperative judging effort by ministers and Lions. First place went to Mr. and Mrs. Gerteer, second to Mr. and Mrs. Harberts, and third to Mr. and Mrs. Higgins. Honorable mentions went to Hob Curry and Lee Seahteen. In Garwood Nada, the Garwood Lions Club sponsored with Crestate Power And Light providing 50. Judge Kalina noted entries in both indoor and outdoor divisions with prizes from 12.50 to 5. Outstanding indoor was Safe Hint Home. outdoor first went to Wied home, second to Charles Kalina Jr., third to Albert Arnold. Judges and Lions committees praised nativity displays at Garwood Methodist Church and St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Collision Rouses Deer Hunter Near Sheridan
A Sheridan area deer hunter was awakened in a 1986 Ford pickup when the vehicle, partly parked on a paved county road, was struck by a 1980 Buick Devon driven by Mrs. Rosalie Beecher owner of Rosalie's Cafe. Patrolman Billy Miller reported Frank S tundl had visited the pickup earlier. The collision caused extensive damage and Mrs. Beecher received treatment at Gourkton Hospital.
