Drilling starts at the Garwood well after pumping machine repairs. By 6 AM Thursday the depth reached 53 feet with Steve Hertmangraber supervising. The crew expects the bore to reach Folly 499 feet by the time the operation is completed.
Following a regular Exstermm Star gathering on Teureisy evening the group planned a Christmas program. Members rested by the table with candles bells and pine lore, singing led by Parker and others. Thames and Miss Alice Tomas assisted, red tree by Banta and merriment.

Texas cotton farmers vote 188960 to 43403 to continu e the AAA crop restriction program for another year. Mass disturn A Bushh wears sent and serious operation at the Methodist Hospital in Houston. News from friends here says she is doing nicely since the operation. It is hoped she can leave the hospital and go home before Christmas though she will not be able to return immediately. Friends express sympathy and wish for her swift recovery.
Mr and Mrs Lenhart of Texas and Old Mexico visit Mexico City with their son and daughter in law Ernest Lenhart of Alice and Mrs Katherine Putney of Navasota joining the trip. The party plans a two week motor holiday enjoying sightseeing and local hospitality.
Eagle Lake churches announce Christmas events with pageants and trees. Baptist, Catholic, Presbyterian, Episcopal, and Methodist congregations schedule services from Christmas Eve to December 22. Each group lists organizers, teachers, and volunteers directing pageants, trees, and child activities for the season.
Miss Ruby Wyler daughter of Mr and Mrs Louis Tyler of Altell and Mr Henry Wills of Beaumont were married at 2 30 pm Wednesday at the Methodist Church in Columbus by Rev Charleton pastor They will make their home in Beaumont The groom known as Buddy is a son of Mr and Mrs Wis of Chesterville and holds a position with the Simon Company Friends of the couple send best wishes
Mr and Mrs Earald Thomas of 2 mile northeast of Lissie lost their two story eight room home in a fire at 11 o clock last Friday morning. Origin believed from a spark on the roof from the brick chimney. About 200 people gathered as firefighters and neighbors saved most belongings. The couple moved later to Bugle Lake Bre 20W and expressed gratitude to those who helped save contents.
The Eagle Lexe Garden Club received over four hundred rose bushes from Tyler this week. The two hundred year old variety will aid beautification of the city next spring. The club promotes yard and garden upkeep and offers a library of encyclopedias for planting guidance. It plans a Spring Mower show and related planting efforts in view of that event.
Two gypsy women allegedly robbed Ella and Jesse of church funds amounting to 27 dollars as they pressed charms and a blessing in a rural home. The trio later traveled toward Houston seeking repayment while one man disappeared near a tobacco stop, leaving the others unsettled. Local inquiry follows.
Eagle Lake welcomed its first home owned aircraft when H J Campbell and a factory man flew the Piper Cub from Houston. The plane, purchased for Campbell and his son Overton, will be kept in Houston until a hanger is arranged in Eagle Lake. Weekends will see the plane flown to Eagle Lake with a government instructor aboard, and local citizens plan flying lessons under the same instructor to begin soon.
The Rotary Club held its Christmas party in the brand new High School gym on Tuesday night with 12 attendees. Dave Wictermann welcomed guests, followed by an invocation from James W. Read, pastor. A turkey dinner served by the Band Mothers Club impressed all, and music from Columbus High School staff plus a Girls Quartet provided festive entertainment. The event raised funds for the band, with the group planning future service.

Mr Ford Ham of this city son of Mr and Mrs S T Ham and Miss Mildred Tucker of Columbus Mo traveled to Angleton Sunday where at 4 o clock in the afternoon at the home of Roy and Mrs Srysve Lee they were married by Rev Mr Lee, a former Eagle Lake Baptist pastor. They will make their home in East Bernard. Many friends join the Headlight in wishing the couple happiness and prosperity.
Contractors move in for a federal county river bridge project at Garwood cross Colorado River. Aneih Bridge Company oversees construction with preliminary work started Monday. A temporary oil barrel span exists at Lew bridge site while steel and piling are delayed. project aims to finish foundation before spring rise within six months.
Mrs. Jack Waduell of Rock Island returns from the deer season with a huge 12 point buck described as the largest and finest horns seen in the area. She also took a 2 point on opening day and a late Saturday second buck, pushing her season tally toward a notable limit. Chas Edward Johnson of Eagle Lake also reports a very large buck in Altair section, second only to Mrs. Wadadull's prize.
Rev and Mrs W M Logan delighted by the birth of a son named Davist Malcolm born December 4 in Edinburgh Scotland. The Logans, visiting Scotland for a year, celebrate this new arrival and extend greetings to family and friends.
The Enzie Lee school will close for the Gheistuiay holiday on Prix day, December 93, with a short break noted for the holidays. January Lee will resume work after the holidays.
Former county citizen Mr J Tanner and family near Junction showcase a water powered home workshop. Tanner builds furniture and machinery with elaborate devices and plans an elevated cliffside electrically equipped residence with escalator powered by his water system. Neighbor Mr Westmoreland notes Tanner’s weekly paper subscription and personal changes over years.
