Short Change Artists Foiled Here in Eagle Lake
Short change artists tried their trick in Eagle Lake last weekend but clerks and merchants foiled them. At Eagle Lake Drugs an employee, Mrs Wands Matcheski, realized she had given too much after the suspects left. The four men fled in a brown Buick west on Route 102, a roadblock failing to stop them. The same group attempted a later scam at Berger Mobil Service Station, where owner Lawrence Berger exposed the ruse and alerted police. Chief Roy Chisum, with Hallettsville and other units, attempted to set up a roadblock but could not secure Hallettsville radio coordination.
