Rice Acreage Allotment Cut 10 Percent For '72
The 1972 crop acreage allotment will be 1 652 596 acres with a loan rate of 65 percent of parity as of Aug 1 1972 announced by Secretary Clifford M Hardin. He pledged to keep rice competitive in world markets and to export additions under PS 480 while outlining major provisions months ahead to help producers plan. He warned that rising carryovers push costs up and depress prices. P L 400 plans include sales of 850 000 metric tons to Indonesia and 50 000 to Pakistan under Title I, plus up to 9 000 metric tons for feeding Pakistani refugees. The 65 percent parity loan level remains from 1971, but rising parity lifts the actual loan value for 1972. preliminary rates were higher with final values expected. A uniform value factor will apply to medium and short grain, with long grain 50 cents higher. (Continued on page HD)
