El Campo men Kampe and Houston Weana claim a patent for a rice hull concrete product. Two hulls mixed with concrete form blocks claimed to be heat and moisture resistant, lighter than concrete, and suitable for roofing and flooring. Experimental production occurs at the Chapell farm near El Campo with plans for commercial development.
A Washington dispatch reports the House approved a flood control bill for the Colorado River region, including Texas projects. The Senate is expected to act soon. The Eagle Lake to Matagorda section received 95,000 dollars for advance planning, with Army surveys detailing a 11,924 foot levee, 16 feet high max, crown width 10 feet, to protect Columbus to the river mouth area. Local notes say the levee may affect one home and avoid highway or rail changes, with maintenance by flood control officials and government funding already allocated.
