Tobacco Pool Sued Over Alleged Market Cornering
Jacob Eichel and Abraham Loewenthal sue Sawyer Wallace & Co. in the Law and Equity Court claiming 1547 hogsheads of tobacco were unlawfully pooled in 1885. They allege the pool barred nonmembers, forced high prices, and the defendants refused to deliver or account for the tobacco, seeking damages around 220000 dollars.
