Murderer at large after Merritt killing in Durham area
Eloise Merritt is killed by her husband Charles Merritt in a Durham county incident that followed a string of similar homicides. W. H. Tilley and Wesley Bates are jailed. Van Ray and Whey Merritt remain at large as observers press for arrests. Remains were taken to Chapel Hill for interment.
