Fires Break Out In Local Buildings And Rail Yard
Three small fires were reported in the city with prompt action preventing major damage. A late Tuesday blaze in a Church Street building occupied by L D Rogers was controlled by quick responders. Man Drinks Two Ounces Laudanum in Suicide Attempt
Thomas Browning, 23 or 24, deliberately drank two one ounce bottles of laudanum on Wednesday afternoon. He collapsed, was saved by a physician, treated with a stomach pump and antidotes, then moved to his Edgemont home. The motive remains unclear though he spoke of quitting work and showed distress.
