Death of A W Carden at 313 Willard Street
Alvis W Carden died after several weeks illness at his home 313 Willard street last Saturday morning. He leaves a wife seven children, and his siblings and friends mourn his loss. Funeral service at his home Sunday at 4 pm conducted by Rev Lankford, with interment in Maple wood cemetery.

Prisoner Escape During Train Transfer At Greensboro
Last Friday Policeman Beavers was sent to Greensboro to retrieve prisoner Mally Brooks held for violating marriage obligations. Brooks jumped through a car window near Mebane, breaking glass, and escaped as Beavers chased and the train continued to Durham. Carrie Nation visited Durham from Saturday to Tuesday provoking mixed reactions. Ed Moore of this city was shot early Sunday near Dora Crabtree’s home. Lawrence McDade is under arrest and a trial in Orange County will follow when Moore returns.
