Sheriff Markham Dead After Long Feeble Illness
Sheriff Felix D. Markham died Friday afternoon at his home surrounded by family friends after months of declining health. Born June 20, 1845 in Orange now Durham county, he served as sheriff most terms since the county’s formation. Funeral Sunday at First Baptist Church with Masons and Odd Fellows in charge. burial at Maplewood Cemetery. The procession included Elks Juniors Odd Fellows Masons and Old Veterans and drew a large crowd of well wishers.

Sheriff Markham Dies. Maddry Sworn In As Interim Sheriff
After Sheriff Markham’s death last Friday, County Coroner Maddry was sworn in as sheriff pending a county commissioners meeting for a permanent successor. Francis Moore four month old daughter of Dr and Mrs R A Moore died at home last Saturday. Funeral and burial were Sunday. R B Smith of East Durham died Sunday at two, age about 50, leaving five children. Funeral and burial were Monday.
