Durham Indignation Meeting Demands Jury Reform

Citizens of Durham hold mass meeting at the courthouse to protest the Reuben Barbee verdict and to draft a bill to reform jury selection. The assembled crowd, including business and professional leaders, urged law and order while seeking changes ahead of the legislature. Parallel meetings occurred in West Durham with similar resolutions.

Trained Nurses Offer Private Nursing at Watts Hospital

Watts Hospital nurses available for private nursing of patients not treated at the hospital. Applications must go through the attending physician to the matrons. Paying patients are charged by agreement. those unable to pay in town receive free nursing with equal care. Trustees seek to create a valuable community service in Durham. George W. Inauguration of UNC President E A Alderman

The UNC inauguration program at Chapel Hill includes music by the Mandolin Club and Glee Club, addresses by faculty and students leaders, and a reception by Gov. Russell. Induction of Prof E A Alderman as president will occur January 27 with remarks from Chicago University president William Rainy Harper and Columbia’s Nicholas Murray Butler.
