An eye witness reports Deputy Revenuer Morgan killed Charles Crittendon after a dispute at the McAde Hotel in Greensboro. Crittendon, 30, a professional gambler, and Morgan exchanged insults and shots. Crittendon fell dead from chest and wrist wounds. Morgan is jailed for preliminary trial. The piece also notes Currin’s return to Oxford after his cousin’s death and Durham’s plan for a hospital with support from the Farmers Room and churches.
