Forgery Arrest Report From Newbern Journal

Yesterday at 1 o clock Mayor Williams received information that John Wileone forged the name of L Kore rbce Commissioner at Little Rock Arkansas to obtain five dollars from the Society at New Barn to go to Little Rock. The mayor telegraphed to Goldboro and had him arrested. he will be brought to this city today. Also later that afternoon L. H. Smith colored was arrested in this city. Both will have a hearing before the Mayor this morning.

A excursion party of African Americans from Henderson Durham and nearby areas visited Richmond. A ball at a hall near the Second police station led to a disorderly scene. police arrested 54, with most jailed overnight and fined at court the next day. North Carolina attendees urged leniency.
