Negro Steals Cash Box From Hessee Store on Corcoran
A black thief, weighing about 140 pounds and shabbily dressed, entered J. A. Hessee’s furniture store on Parrish street, stole a desk drawer containing about $75, including a $20 bill and five $5s, and fled past Orange street. a pursuit failed and the suspect vanished. Police alerted, no arrest soon. In a separate note, William Horton of Person County was found dead by the roadside near Roxboro, likely from heart failure. he was a prominent farmer and father of W. N. Horton, a Southern Railway dispatcher.

Obituary of Joseph Y Smith a Durham resident aged 36
For some time the friends and relatives of Joseph Smith have realized that he could not survive very long. Last Friday night he breathed his last. The funeral and burial took place Sunday. Joseph Y. Smith was 36 years of age and had spent the most of his life in Durham, and was in many positions of trust, where he came in contact with our citizens, and consequently was well known. He leaves a wife, three children and an aged mother.

Death of 15monthold Master Pickett at Lakewood Park
Master Austin Trice Pickett, 15 months old, died at the family home near Lakewood Park Monday at 9 AM after several days of illness. Spinal miningetis was the immediate cause. Rev. A D Hunter officiated at the funeral from the residence at 10 AM, with burial in the family ground near the home.
