Democratic Platform Highlights From National Convention
The platform calls for a revenue tariff used for collection only and attacks high Republican tariffs as causing wealth inequality. It supports immediate and gradual tariff reductions on essentials, strict anti trust enforcement, curbs on private monopolies, and income tax plus direct senator elections. It backs presidential primaries, limits campaign contributions, one term presidencies, rate regulation of rail and telecom, and banking reform to ease distress. It also supports agricultural credit study, flood protection for the Mississippi valley, national post road aid, workers' compensation, Alaska lands access, farmer protections, maritime growth, pure food, civil service reform, and imperialism opposition with Alaska self governance and rural delivery.
