Local notes report Buck Brothers now operate the City Meat Market. Accounts mention Pickens Anderson, Oliver Billingsley, B. F. Billingsley, and various local business moves. Significantly, transfers include Joe Billingsley selling stock to W. F. Hagan & Co and J. W. Burke buying Boggs shop.
E. W. Taylor opens a large mid winter sale next Tuesday offering 10 to 50 percent reductions on stock. He will travel to eastern markets including New York City to buy Spring and Summer goods and return with bargains for customers amid a rush for first picks.
Eight assessors and four assessors-elect from Arizona attended the Bisbee meeting of the Arizona Assessors association. Officers named include T. E. Campbell Prescott president Frank Luke Phoenix vice president Charles R. Howe Tombstone secretary and treasurer. A committee will draft resolutions on bullion tax law tax on express companies and tax on telephone and telegraph companies for the first state legislature.
M A Clouse, principal Mt. Vernon mine owner, brought a chunk of mighty rich ore to the office last Saturday and left it on exhibition. Craig, a mining expert, also praises the Mt. Vernon saying it holds some of the richest ore seen in the district.
The $2,000,000 Arizona Copper Company smelter at Clifton Morenci begins construction with 200 workers. Last Monday saw tool houses built ground cleared and tents erected on the old stock yard site as steel contract is let and activity rises in Greenlee county.
Willis and Martin have sold City Meat Market to Emmet and Robert Buck who will operate as Buck Brothers. The new firm will carry on with the same high standards and service, with W Hill remaining as meat cutter at the old stand.
Washington D C January 15 Postmaster General Hitchcock proposed to Congress government ownership and operation of all telegraph lines as an adjunct to the post office department He was summoned to the White House by President Taft and received supportive comments from Congressman Moon and Senator Lourne indicating careful consideration may follow The White House later stated there is no friction from the conference on the plan
The Greenlee County Board of Supervisors met January 15 to award the Duncan bridge contract after reviewing four bids, El Paso Bridge & Iron Co. submitting the low bid of 15975 dollars. Two hundred dollars was approved to fund a Washington delegate for promoting the Trans continental Highway through southern Arizona. The Clifton Duncan road was inspected, accepted with minor changes, and the board recessed to Tuesday evening. Mr. Williams, an Arizona pioneer of about 80 years, was ordered sent to the Pioneer’s Home at Prescott.
J W Burke who has run a thriving local blacksmith business since last fall has purchased the Boggs shop and taken charge. Boggs will move to the lower valley to work with a son and Burke will transfer all business to Boggs stand. The deal closed last week with all work moved.
The sun shone as crowds filled the capitol grounds to see William McDonald sworn in at noon on the capitol steps. Chief Justice J. C. Roberts administered the oath as bands played and flags fluttered in the ancient capital.

The bride a longtime teacher in Clifton Springerville and daughter of local families. the groom a Forest Service officer, recently stationed Greer Apache County. A Strong Law Firm announces that upon Associate Justice John H. Campbell's retirement from the Supreme Court of the Territory of Arizona the prior partnership with Judge Campbell will be resumed as Nave and Campbell. Offices will be in Tucson and Globe.
A special convention of the local Knights of Pythias installed the newly elected officers led by Deputy Grand Chancellor W C Cheatham before departing to Marico county.
