Myton Rodeo Draws Huge Crowd in Two-Day Event
A large crowd attended Myton's two day rodeo, the biggest turnout yet, with participants from the basin and Roosevelt area. Events included goat roping, bucking, pony express, and dancing, plus a ten-entry surcingle and a record crowd at the open-air pavilion. Winners ranged from Rhoades and Bert Wessfood to Shump and Willie Chickno, with Price defeating Uintah basin all stars 13 to 7.

Lucky Lindy visits Uintah Basin on flight to Salt Lake

Strawberry River Bridge Contract Awarded
September 2 the state road commission awarded the contract for building the two steel bridges over the Strawberry River on the Dutchesne Fairland road to Strong and Grant of Springville. The two structures will cost 44 097 40 and the contractors have 130 working days to complete the project.

Vernal Man Suffered Stroke While Camped in Steamboat
Gus Raemer of Vernal and his wife were at the Steamboat Springs municipal campground when he suffered a stroke Monday night of last week. He was moved to Steamboat hospital where he is receiving care. Raemer has worked in painting and decorating in Vernal for about 15 years.

Knowlton No 10 in the Moffat field yielded a large oil flow from a stray sand at about 4250 feet in a deep test. Gas shows preceded the production, with output reaching around 400 barrels per hour, the largest Colorado well to date. Drilling at Ashley valley dome aims for Sundance sand in about two thousand two hundred feet, with continued round the clock activity.

Largest Ever Uintah County Court Calendar Opens
The Uintah County District Court opened for the fall term at 10 a m with Judge Martin M Larsen present and DA M B Pope and county attorney Dallas H Young in attendance. The docket totals two criminal cases twenty three probate cases eleven law and motion and nineteen civil matters. Notable cases include State of Utah versus Morrell Karren for persistent liquor law violations and State of Utah versus Pat Markey for wilful neglect of his children. Jury called to appear September 7. This is Judge Larsen’s first term in the county after appointment to succeed Judge Tucker, who moved to Santa Ana California.

Child Killed in DanIels Canyon Auto Crash
A Sunday morning crash in DanIels Canyon involving two Ford coupes and a Buick left a seven month old child dead after the Ford overturned down a hill. Donald Bench Andrew Wood and Mrs. W D Bishop survived with injuries, and tourists transported casualties to Heber hospital before doctors rushed to the scene. The child was taken to Salt Lake for burial.

California Tufted Quail Shows Heavy Local Increase
Sportsmen and farmers report a heavy rise in California tufted quail in Uintah and Duchesne counties. Birds breed in brush along rivers and creeks, with many broods seen since June.
