Field trials at Ft Duchesne show clipping the bud stage and irrigation timing critically influence alfalfa seed production. No irrigation or late irrigation boosted seed yield and quality, while midseason water tended to promote vegetative growth and weed growth, reducing seed purity and harvest efficiency.
Eighteenth in teachers and educators to the state announcement of the universitys new plan for summer. Dean Millon of the school of education says the program will include two terms with six books and a series of lectures by leading educators. Noted figures from New York University and the state education department are listed among the speakers for the coming session.
Utah State Automobile Association announces a seventh national safety campaign with 6500 in prizes for elementary pupils in grades five through eight and for teachers. Essays must be about traffic rules, include a drawing or clip, and be submitted by May 1 1928. First national prize is a gold watch and trip to Washington. teachers can win cash and trips as well.
Citizens gathered at the post office corner Tuesday morning to work on street repairs. A school band played as volunteers cleared D street and 7th street, improving the block in front of the hall despite blustery weather. Volunteers, aided by local organizations, provided lunch, and participants pledged ongoing gravel days through the summer.
Officials plan to stop a village area near Ashiey valley in Utah. A 2729 foot wall depth is set for gas and water wells. A gas well of 30 000 000 cubic feet is called the second gas well in the field.
A 1927 tax study questions bond funding in Utah counties and districts. It argues bonds may fund vanity projects or misused improvements and urges taxpayers to choose pay as you go over new debt, citing $2.5 million from $15 million in taxes as bond payments. Duchesne County referenced.
The Forum magazine in New York offers 2 prizes for short definitions of democracy. Hollenbeck of Duchesne wins five dollars with a submission that defines democracy as government by the people and balanced by political parties.

The Duchesne oil test located 9 miles southwest of Duchesne is within a few feet of 3600 feet. Workers plan to drill an additional five hundred feet through limestone. Casing remains at 2970 feet as water depth nears three thousand feet while boiler leakage and poor water affect operations. Geologists expect the lime formation to yield soon possibly revealing oil, with hopes of reaching a lake of oil or a Clinaman’s queue.
Victory Park will reopen for the 1928 season on Saturday night April 21 with improvements including moved trees new walks more concession stands and a decorated dance pavilion. New tennis courts heated swimming pool lath houses and picnic grounds will be ready for the opening and Saturday night dances with a fine orchestra and prizes will continue throughout summer.
The Utah State Automobile Association cites a high risk of motor vehicle deaths and injuries in 1927. Nationally about 24,000 deaths and 720,000 accidents occurred from 23 million vehicles. Youth fatalities and improper safety focus spurred plans for broader 1928 1929 safety campaigns and stronger appeals.
Mayor W Frank Olson told Price chamber members the Denver and Rio Grande railroad shows interest in a year round highway through Nine mile into Uintah basin. He noted lower crossing height and expected support from Uintah basin regions and Soldier Canyon. Superintendent Faery can arrange railroad talks with chamber or basin delegations to test feasibility. Chamber favored backing if financing can be arranged.
The Presbyterian church held its annual meeting Tuesday evening. Reports from committees were read as trustees were elected W T Rogers and Mrs R E Waugh. E E Eggieson elected elder. Mrs S S Parker and Mrs C P Dauwalder named organists. Sunday school leadership roles assigned with E Waugh and Mrs W Harris assisting. A program including solos, recitations and a duet followed by a social hour and lunch.
