Moosevelt Man Loses Truck In Blaze Near Blue Cut

Alphonse Madsen of Hoosevelt was driving from Price to Helper last Friday evening when his truck laden with merchandise caught fire in the Blue Cut. The vehicle was destroyed, possibly due to a short circuit at the motor, with an estimated loss around 7000 dollars and no insurance. Passersby assisted but could not save the truck, which was rolled into the river to prevent a possible explosion as flames reached the gasoline.

In Idaho, twenty-one hundred head of two year old ewes sold at a new high of 16 dollars each. Industry sources say this is the highest price paid for ewes since World War I. The contract covered ewes only, excluding wool or lands.

Salt Lake chamber guests tour Uintah basin sites

Seventeen Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce members visited Duchesne Myton and Vernal for a luncheon tour. Mayor J C Bowman spoke of Uintah basin potential and officials discussed the Calten bill to improve the dinosaur quarry with a caretaker and facilities. A special committee, chaired by Ben J Redman, will report findings to the board of Governors.

Monster New 3-Foot Gauge Locomotive for Uintah Road

A new and larger 3-foot gauge Mallet locomotive, weighing about 566,000 pounds, is set to enter service on the Uintah line. Built chiefly at the direction of L. C. Sprague after a Baldwin Locomotive Works visit, it will haul heavy freight up steep grades toward Baxter Pass. The engine, designed for the Uintah conditions, can move 260 tons of freight and is expected to be operational next week.
