Duchesne High School shows strong shop program growth under Mr William Mortimer guiding shop work and civic and church roles. An exhibit at a PTA meeting highlighted metal and wood work achievements with new metal courses and practical student projects benefiting from improved shop facilities.
Duchesne High School defeated Vernal 28 to 15 after a lively pep rally and dance at the school. Duchesne's Brown and Bates led scoring while Vernal struggled with fast Duchesne passes and late fight from Mickey the forward.
Theodore receives a $23,000 amendment to the Annual Indian Appropriation bill for steel bridges in Duchesne or Theodore. If HB No. 13 passes, $10,000 would fund roads in the reservation and $6,000 for agricultural experiments. Spring planning and irrigation projects, including Lakefork ditch and Lott canal, are eyed as work to start next season.
The Gateway Club met at Dintys for a monthly banquet with George C. Kohl presiding over a Virginia baked ham dinner. A key issue was designating a Duchesne to Tabby road as a state road and purchasing the oiling of the route this summer. Dr. W D Bishop announced five nominees for membership.
Duchesne county farmers are urged to buy breeding stock directly from reliable breeders rather than dealers. Dealers may push high priced stock, while breeders offer better assurance and lasting value. Farmers are advised to contact the Extension Service or Logan for breeder names and to support local Duchesne County breeders.
State highway advisory board in Denver announced allocations for Northwestern Colorado, including $100 000 to finish Denver Craig road from Steamboat Springs east to Rabbit Ears pass and $210 000 for Berthoud pass reconstruction. Additional sums cover west Fraser, Idaho Springs, Grand county and Rabbit Ears forest road under contract.

Virgil Babecock of Toosevelt died Friday after a trip that week to Sattt Lake and Leeser. He stopped at Chris Andersons camp and Duchesne Wednesday. Dr Rich treated him after returning home but his illness, identified as flu pneumonia, proved fatal.
A large number of married folks from Talmage attended the married folks dance in Donefa on Friday night and reported a very good time. Mr Laron Beckstead and Mrs James Evans visit Mt Emmons with Mrs Beckstead’s mother. The M I A will present two one act plays Friday evening in the hall to raise missionary funds. Tray Larson made a business trip.
The Fish and Game Association held a January 28 meeting in the Chamber of Commerce with 41 representatives from the Fish and Game, House committee, and several Senators. Dave Madsen presided. The group endorsed reappointing J Arthur Mecham as Commissioner as they noted a ten year rise in Utah fish and game and debated controls on medatory animals.
Friends gathered at the Price ranch in Indian Canyon to honor J E Price of Indian Canyon on his 62nd birthday. Born in Draper Utah in 1869 he homesteaded in Indian Canyon about 20 years ago and has raised eight children across the country.
The Eighth Annual Convention of Treasurers Auditors and Assessors meets the fifth and sixth at the Newhouse Hotel Salt Lake. Mrs Bessie O Young and Mr W Smith will attend from Duchesne County. D K Moffat of Salt Lake is Association president. Delegates study conditions, offer department improvements, hear proposed legislation and enjoy entertainment.
The federal aid survey for the Victory highway from the Utah Colorado line to Maybelle is finished. Stanley Dismuke led two crews, with ten men remaining in Rifle for winter duty while Dismuke’s team reports back to Steamboat Springs for details.
