The vessel is larger and faster than the Alabama or Florida and may be the Southerner. The Siphon and the Minnesota were the port’s only efficient ships. the Iroquois left in pursuit of a blockade runner.

The afternoon dispatch notes Gen Magrider killed, Gen Averill reported to Gen Kelley, and Ike evacuated from Morris Island and Battery Wagner. The Daniel Webster reports Morris Island evacuation by Confederates and a fire loss of 250000 dollars mostly insured in New York and New England offices.
Trans port City of Baltimore from Charleston reports siege ongoing with ironclads and land batteries bombarding Wagner. Casualties small. Also brief dispatches cite actions at Chattanooga and Madison County with rebel counters and mutinies, plus military confiscations and Averill’s raid reports across multiple counties with prisoners and matériel captured.
A late 1861 style dispatch reports movements of Maj Gens John Logan and Burbridge from Alton to Memphis. Steamer Julia arrives from New Orleans in six days while French occupation of Tampico is noted. Reports from Charleston and Fort Sumter depict heavy bombardment and evacuations. Kansas border tensions rise with Quantrill’s forces near Leavenworth and citizens forming vigilante groups.
