A pretitled missive dated June 6 1864 from Morres Heavens on behalf of the late Democratic Convention at Independence Tam requests to thank President Smith Superintendent Young and Conductor Kellows for courteous treatment extended to convention members. Signed J Gi Amstscroxa secretary.
A fragment from a letter carried by a friend, written by a soldier at St Charles in Ackansas. He laments long absence from home and poor rations, mocks officers, laments sickness, worm-filled hands, and "sow-belly" meals. He argues for peace and criticizes abolitionists and Lincoln, urging a change in administration.

The Posts Washington special reports a Maryland citizen found guilty of leading a rebel force and sentenced to imprisonment in York. Steamship Roanoke delayed after Havana departure, possibly rebel pirate involvement feared. News notes include General Wilson's brevet major general commission, Sherman era skirmishes, and heavy Confederate activity near Petersburg and Staunton. Casualties total 4,377. dry goods prices fall. Captain Hammon proposes a $25,000 medal fund for Captain Wilwow and crew.
Official report from yesterday shows Captain Fisk's north overland expedition crossing to the west side of the Missouri at Fort Rice Dakota Territory. Health good, Fisk advanced toward Yellow Stone on Aug 22. A distant reconnaissance indica tes Sioux forces near Great Bend of the Missouri, south of that river and north west of Fort Rivera.
