John Thomypeon of Dubigie announces a city election Friday in April to elect a mayor treasurer collector and attorney and other posts. The notice lists polling places and wards and sets the time for the public vote and official duties.
The message notes a great flood in New York caused by rapid snowmelt destroying property and delaying telegraph and mail service. It alsocomments on Grant’s harsh stance toward cotton speculators and mentions Sherman’s letter with no fresh highs. The British press views Charleston’s fall as signaling the rebellion’s waning strength.

Wounds were inflicted as the beast attacked, Johnny Cotton’s party fought back with a revolver and gun butt. The tiger was killed after shots and a headshot, while Mr. William Cotton and Mr. Johnston suffered severe injuries.
Rumors swirl among Roman Catholic communities in the metropolitan area about Gardin Wiseann’s successor as archbishop of Westminster. Names circulating include Dr. Wo. HE. Clitford Monsignor George Talbot and Dr. Henry Manning. Clitford, bishop of Clifton, is linked to nobility. Talbot is pope’s chamberlain.
