They state no immediate change for daily editions but announce increased weekly and other rates, pledging to revert if conditions improve.
The telegraph reports unclear aims of Northern Virginia and Maryland operations with scattered fords on the Potomac and movements toward Bedford Springs Pennsylvania. Missouri calls for PA volunteers to repel invasion. A James River skirmish yields casualties and artillery losses. Rumors of Confederate advances near Atlanta persist while Grant’s department resumes activity north of the James River. Government stores move to Maryland Heights. citizens flee Fredericksburg area.
